How is it Performed?

Surgery is frequently performed to alleviate suffering when medication alone is unlikely to result in a cure and may involve removal or replacement of a diseased organ or tissue.

The areas of the body usually treated by surgery includes the stomach, liver, small and large intestines, appendix, breasts, thyroid gland, salivary glands, some arteries and veins as well as the skin. Specialized surgical repair is necessary for treating other areas of the body such as the brain, heart, eyes and feet.

Better Option- MIP

The field continues to develop new methods and techniques that are less invasive and permit procedures that were considered impossible in previous practices. One of the newer development is Minimally Invasive Procedure (MIP). Compared to traditional open surgery, MIP uses state-of-the-art technology to perform abdominal surgery. Patients who choose MIP usually enjoy faster recoveries and shorter hospital stays than conventional surgery patients. Are you a candidate for MIP? That's a question you will need to discuss with your doctor or surgeon. But MIP has been proven to be just as effective as conventional surgery, while getting patients back to the things that are important to them sooner.

How MIP Works

With MIP, a surgeon makes small, dime-sized incisions in the patient's abdomen through which a miniature camera, or videoscope, and specialized instruments are inserted to perform the procedure-- so there's no need for a long, conventional incision that may cut through large amounts of skin and muscle. Since MIP requires smaller incisions than conventional surgery, it is less invasive in your body and less intrusive on your life. Ask your doctor whether you are a candidate for MIP.
